A Catholic's journey through infertility, pregnancy and now motherhood.
"The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard 'delay,' but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
I need some suggestions for any natural cold remedies because I seem to be getting a cold and I don't want to get K sick if I can avoid it. I am breastfeeding so it needs to not adversely affect lactation. TIA!
I 2nd rinsing the sinuses (I never do, but it's proven to be very effective) and vitamin C. If you're sure you're not pregnant you can take vit C to bowel tolerance which may be up 10,000+ mgs when sick. If there's a chance that you're pregnant then make sure to not exceed 5,000mg / day. Just watch K's diapers as well to make sure that you don't exceed her bowel tolerance. Also zinc 30-60mg. The vit C and zinc can be used to treat mastitis so some women who have a low grade infection actually see an increase in milk taking them.
Also Elderberry Syrup is a very powerful and yet very safe anti-viral. You can buy it at most grocery stores that have a natural medicine section and almost all natural food stores, but I make my own with this recipe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XOYzWyFGkqM#!
I use emergen C...I did it when H was 9 weeks old and breastfeeding. I did not get sick with the strep my grandmother had.....I use it every time I feel something come on and I haven't gotten anything...It's not "organic natural" but it has yet to fail me.
Make sure your vitamin D is being supplemented in the winter as well....
Neti Pot!!!!!!! It takes a little getting used to but they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI took 4000 mg of vitamin c while breastfeeding and both Noah and I got rid of our colds (we got one the same day) in 3 days.
