Zone 1...a pain in the...

PPVI called today and my progesterone is down in Zone 1 after being in Zone 2 for a while (after starting off in Zone 4 at 4 weeks).  I now have to take 200 mg PIO twice a week, and since I have 50 mg/ml through my mail order pharmacy since it was so much cheaper ($30 for 90 day supply vs $60 a bottle for the compounding pharmacy's 100 mg/ml) I have to do a shot in each hip.  I also have to add 200 mg oral progesterone daily.  Hopefully my levels will go back to at least Zone 2 quickly and I won't have to do this extra for too long.  Anyone have any hints on how to lay for the shot?  I feel  uncomfortable laying on my stomach even with a pillow.

  1. Oh no! That darn misbehaving progesterone!! I will pray that it goes RIGHT back to where it should be, very quickly!! Those shots are not fun but you are a trooper. I found they were easiest if I stood, but kinda leaned a bit forward, and then put all my weight on the opposite leg and let the other leg sort of dangle, then it's not tense at all when the shot goes in. Make sure to kinda massage the site after the shot, it'll help prevent it from knotting up. Maybe PPVI will have some good tips for you...those nurses do P shots all day long!

  2. I second Hebrews-standing should work. Or lay down on the opposite side the shot is going in against a body pillow-support for your tummy but you can still get your butt in the air. And remember to do the shot SLOWLY! Like take at least 2-4 minutes to get it all in, set a timer if you have to. At least that was necessary for me-kept the pain down tremendously.

    Praying it goes back up!

  4. Yes - standing is better than laying. I stand, slightly bent over, with my toes pointed inward.

  5. Wow, I never knew that I should stand. I always layed on the opposite side of the shot like Kaitlin said. Hmmm. Maybe it's less painful to stand?

  6. Ugh, I am sorry to hear about your levels. I always laid on my side for shots. But either way standing or laying they never seemed to be any easier. I love your pregnancy pictures :)You look great!

  7. That stinks about the levels. I also did the 50mg/mL cheaper prog, i.e. more shots, ugh! I laid on my side like TW.

  9. you must relax when taking the shot. Either standing or side-line laying down. I prefered side-line with a pillow under the top leg. Apply heat to the area after taking the shot. I did like the heat patches that stuck to my butt. I would sleep with them some nights.
