Acupuncture

I didn't blog yet about one of the coolest things about the new family that I'm nannying for.  The mom is a doctor who is trained in acupuncture, and even better she giving me complementary treatments for IF (plus she personally dealt with IF and m/c).  I have been really wanting to try acupuncture but it was just completely out of our price range.  We did the second treatment today and it was so relaxing.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get starting in researching adoption?  D says his only real concern that he's aware of would be the financial part of adoption.

  1. I love it! Such great news!!

I am not great about adoption, but there is VOA that works in Shreveport and there is LA Baptist Children's home that is in Monroe that I called about a year ago that helps facilitate adoption with birthmoms that choose adoption from their home for mothers. I think you can find both of these on the web. This is the only info I know about LA things that I have heard or called about! Best of luck, I am so excited for you both and that D's only concern is the financial investment, praise GOD!!!

  2. Wow! Now that's a pretty cool job perk!!

Sounds like LIM (or I should now call her AL I guess! Haha) has some great local info for you. I'd google it too and see what's out there. Then I'd set up a meeting with a couple local agencies just to ask lots of questions and familiarize yourself with the process (some have informational sessions throughout the year). Even if you end up going with an agency that's not local, it doesn't hurt to still use them for research purposes. It can help to talk to someone in person initially.

How exciting that you're looking into it! I pray that God grows your family according to His perfect plan!

  5. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on adoption but I'm sure someone out there can!

How AMAZING that the mom is a trained acupuncturist and understands what you are going through...sounds God sent to me!!

I've never tried acupuncture and I wouldn't be opposed to it, it's just that I hear it's expensive. And because I'm lazy to search right now and I'm sure you know something about it, have there been studies done that have shown improvements in IF with acupuncture? Just curious! So exciting for you!!

  6. Adoptions can be expensive but it IS SO WORTH IT! The first thing you need to do is agency research (and try to find one that suites your budget). Start making some phone calls and asking around for recommendations and really praying about the right path. You can also go through the State for your homestudy which is less expensive and most agencies accept. (I believe). My advice is just get started. It takes a loooooong time and it's a hard wait. God Bless you on your journey!

  8. Don't forget about fostercare. It's a huge risk but you don't even pay for adoptions and if you do its such an affordable rate. ;) I think it's a great way to open up the door to the many possibilities.

Now that is how one does accupuncture! It's so expensive that is awesome! ;) Gosh, I hope she helps! :)

  9. Awesome! Free treatments are great!

I just looked up a couple adoption agencies in our area, then went to their next scheduled informational meeting. You'll learn a LOT, and it's a good way to get a read on the agency itself. Our agency charges on a sliding scale, so the more money you make, the more you pay.

  13. I don't know much about adoption either but if I were you, I would probably start with Catholic Charities in your hometown. I'll start praying that God leads you where He thinks is best.

  14. Acupuncture for free? That's GREAT!

Adoption: I would suggest attending different informational meetings held by your local adoption agencies. I would also recommend reading some books on adoption as well and can give you some recommendations if you would like.
